Gary and I took our first selfie on Monday. Not because we wanted to join this generation in its obsession — yet, we DID want to show off to our kids that we were at the beach without them!
We also took one other traditional family picture — just to rub it in a little more. “Jesus” written in the sand with a hint of ocean and river meeting behind it. It has been tradition in our family (whenever we are together on sand) since Gracia was just starting to form words.
Click. Check. Send. Hoping, expecting to hear words back like “What?” “How could you?!” “No fair!” “I want to be there and not at school!” But we got nothing. Silence. All that dangling of bait and no bites!
Come to find out… Gracia had not ignored our post. Rather she had posted this picture onto her Instagram, and had fifty plus likes in no time.
I usually make fun of such silly kids’ stuff. But this time I was quite impressed. If her friends didn’t know it about her already, now they know Gracia loves her Jesus! And that’s a cool thing. Apparently many of her friends on social media think so.
“Whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do everything (and use social media too) for the glory of God.” (I Corinthians 10:31)
I think Gary and I should go to the beach more often! 🙂 Pastor Ruth
