Curious and Hanging Out in Hope

Curious and Hanging Out in Hope

I wait for the LORD, my soul waits, and in his word I hope;
my soul waits for the Lord more than those who watch for the morning,
more than those who watch for the morning. O Israel, hope in the LORD!
For with the LORD there is steadfast love,
and with Him is great power to redeem. Psalm 130:5-7

The curious await the future with hopeful anticipation. When our kids were little, we loved to put a few early presents under the tree, so that we could fire up their curiosity and their hope. It worked every time! “How many more days?! When do we get to find out what’s inside?!” And we could use this energy to teach them the curiosity about God coming in the flesh.

As our kids got older and smarter, their curiosity was shaken a bit every time they went under the tree (against the parents’ permission) and shook or frisked the gifts. Once they thought they knew what was in there, their enthusiasm waned. So that the parents had to learn to keep gifts completely hid- den until Christmas Eve in order to preserve the HOPE.

Advent is twenty-eight days of waiting for the LORD with giant curiosity and hopeful anticipation. God is full of surprises, and as His children who know He gives such grand gifts, we can fire up our hope for what He has in store for us.

No matter what stage of life you are going through at the moment, hope like a child and be curious for the next thing God is about to do for you. We know He redeems with great power in such a tiny package of His Son. Greater gifts than this no one has ever seen on earth!

Curiously waiting with you!
Pastor Ruth
