Jesus said “The harvest is plentiful but the laborers are few; therefore pray the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest.” (Matthew 9:37) Jesus also said “Go therefore, to all peoples everywhere…” (Matthew 28:19)
I am about to do a new thing, now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? Isaiah 43:19
We’ve done it before. It’s not quite power walking, although that is allowed. But in the Spirit it becomes an act of “power prayer walking.” Some of you remember we did this a few years ago to get a sense of the neighborhood we were trying to reach with good news. God has blessed our church with some wonderful relationships with kids and parents through our after School early release Kids’ Club and MERGE, as well as Vacation Bible School and Backpack Drive Block party. We want to get out in the neighborhood and lift up our prayers on behalf of those who live nearest to our church facility.
We are committing to have prayer walks on Tuesday and Thursday in June. Our plan is to walk the neighborhood, and as we walk to pray for these neighbors and for our Lord’s lead on how we might make new connections with them.
We have a sign-up sheet available, but of course you can just show up at 10 am on any Tuesday or Thursday afternoon at 5 pm beginning Tuesday June 5th to join us on the pavement.
We can invite people to our End of the Year Block Party coming up June 10th that first week.
Last time we did this Prayer Walk we said prior, “We can’t say that we know what to expect from this.” We can say the same once again. But we are confident the Spirit will lead us to meet some new people and give us a physical sense of the environment of Lincoln and Discovery neighborhoods which we serve. We don’t have expectations beyond listening to the Spirit’s voice each time out in prayer for others. However, we can say that with God all things are possible. And going out in faith, two (or more) by two (or more), seems like it is FULL of possibilities!
Please join with us in a concerted effort of prayer to get to know our neighborhood better and keep listening to what the Spirit of God has to say to us.
Let us aim as Trinity people to be a blessing in new ways, Praying to know that new thing God is doing among us.
