I really look forward to Wednesday nights. And I haven’t been able to put my finger on exactly why. Is it the jazz music? The Trio’s love for what they do? Is it the freedom to try all kinds of songs and hymns with jazz musicians? Is it the simple theme of finding scripture that speaks to our hearts, lightening the load of our daily lives? Is it the casual-ness of bringing coffee and pastry into the sanctuary and sipping at will? Is it the fresh faces of neighbors, curious about what we’ve got going here? Is it the challenge to find new ways to talk about faith? Is it the sharing of leadership with the younger generations? Or is it my own curiosity at just what God is doing here, for our congregation and for our neighbors?
Yes! Yes! And yes! All of that.
By Wednesday night, I am pretty bushed, spent. Revive comes for me just at the right time. And I can say, I do feel revived afterward. It’s that One Word from the Lord that gives energy for the rest of the week. And even though I didn’t know it before, it’s that jazz music too. Okay, okay…and…it’s being with people who also think that Jesus is the coolest guy to ever walk the planet…that too!
Whatever God is up to with Revive, Trinity is going along for the ride! So far, I am having a blast. I hope that you can try it out sometime, and especially– tell your friends or neighbors about it, who might try it out some- time. It takes a village… the whole church. And we all have unchurched friends and neighbors.
For I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes. Romans 1:16 (NRSV)
