The subject of a phone for Gracia comes up often in our home.
“She is just twelve, the rest of us didn’t get a phone until we were sixteen!”
“Yes, but EVERYBODY in my school has a phone, except me!”
“What kind of phone would you get?”
“The IPhone 6 S of course.”
“Well, when you turn sixteen, we’ll get you the IPhone 6 S.”
Even a twelve year old is so accustomed to technology’s rapid change to know, that in four years, the best thing out right now will not be so desirable then. And she knows it is just ridiculous to suggest the iPhone 6S is what she will want four years from now!
When January rolls around, we are accustomed to taking an inventory of changes that have occurred over the previous year, and to gaze forward, wondering how 2016 will turn out.
Depending on our circumstances, this wondering can be filled with excitement or it can be quite daunting. And it can also be anywhere in between.
Health issues, significant others, broken relationships, new opportunities, going off to college, facing major surgery, getting a driver’s license, financial debt, expecting a baby, dying father, new house, rumors of more global conflict, kids moving back to town…
As Christians who have also grown accustomed to listening for God’s voice, we can gaze forward with real hope, no matter what our circumstances, because God assures us that the future belongs to Him. And He assures us that we belong to Him. Through all of it, our God promises to go alongside us. This is the one unshakable promise that will not change and that will not one day become yesterday’s, nearly obsolete, Word.
May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. Romans 15:13
Happy New Year!
