Contemporary Worship Service starts February 4th at 11:00 am!
In the year 1711 C.E., J.S. Bach was composing a new choral piece to be performed for that coming Sunday’s worship service. He did this on a regular basis. Composing an entire piece for that Sunday’s worship. It was an example of contemporary church choral music of his day, cutting edge. And he was later known as the fifth evangelist for his theological instincts and insights to literally proclaim the gospel in lyric and classical music.J.S. Bach and his contemporaries served the church in composing Christian music for his day.
In the year 2015 C.E., Mark Hall, a member of a contemporary Christian band Casting Crowns, was just diagnosed with cancer. Worried first for his young family, he turned to the scripture in Psalms – Why so downcast oh my soul, put your trust in God. He composed “Oh My Soul” to talk about the roots of our faith taking on the storms in our lives in a poignant and powerful way. It was a form of contemporary Christian music of our day, cutting edge.
Mark Hall is one of numerous contemporary artists currently serving the church in composing Christian music for our day. The point is that the church has always been served by contemporary Christian artists writing and creating and theologizing about God’s Word in scripture. And the church has always seen the artists of the gospel in each contemporary age as part of that precious company of music evangelists.
